Music & Soul 5 @ Apache CafĂ© (Feb 2015) This was one of my favorite shows because I felt like I really took risks. I’m going to keep challenging myself to do be in the moment when I’m on that stage & not be afraid to let go! Try something new! No playing it safe.

Hey World! I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all of the holidays this season
Wishing you all a SAFE & exciting New Year as well! But before 2015 comes, I gotta share with ya’ll some of my favorite moments, foods, & experiences of 2014! Let’s take a stroll

DANCE WORLD >>

Ya’ll know I love me a good dance audition. I love me a challenge and this year I had my fair share of them. The most memorable audition would have to be the ‘Drumline: A New Beat’ 2-day audition. Wow. Can I just say I ain’t never danced so hard in my life?! lol but seriously, ALL of the choreo was so fun, I couldn’t help but enjoy the experience. The competition was on & every lady (and guy) in that room fought hard!

Picstitch 2

Praise God. I also had the opportunity to work at Cosmic Energy Fitness Studio as a Hip Hop instructor (my first teaching job at an ATL studio!) I also go to host an upbeat workshop with Dance Styles, Inc.! I’ve met so many gracious women through these jobs & learned new things each step of the way. Thank You. 🙂

IMG_7046  IMG_8203

YA’LL KNOW I EAT! >>

Soooo the first time I go to Joe’s Crab Shack I decide to order crawfish for the first time. Little did I know this stuff has the eyeballs STILL ON it! (I can’t deal.) I had to have Edward crack them open for me, then I could eat them without something looking back at me! Lol You feel me? It was good tho! IMG_7305

A FEW HIGHLIGHTS >>

Some of my new experiences included: being a part of Culture shoes & creating our very own sneaker!, working the Green Carpet with Hip-Hop-U-C-It at the BET Hip Hop Awards, being casted in Janelle Monae’s ‘Electric Lady’ music video, and being an extra in the film, Ride Along 2. IMG_7146

FRIENDS & FAMILY TIME >>

052074IMG_8009IMG_6729

Erin actually just visited me for the second time. (Oooh, I thought I was energetic
but have you met my sister?) Lol 🙂 love you sis. It’s always a good time when I’m surrounded by loved ones. More road trips, family time, & game nights to come!

IMG_8063collage2IMG_8053IMG_8047IMG_8018054041

MINI SHOCKERS >>

OTR2

I attended the Jay-Z & BeyoncĂ© concert! Ow! I had never seen a BeyoncĂ© show or Jay-Z in concert. What an experience 🙂 #OnTheRunTour

Oh, I won a rap battle this year. That’s right, you read it right! Lol I always knew I had it in me. (Thanks to V-103!)

PROGRESS >>

IMG_6045dancersopera

I love being out & meeting new people, but I wasn’t taking full advantage of every opportunity. Took me a while, but I get it. At some point you have to break out of your shell (especially being in a new city) and DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. It’s very easy to get comfortable; but you won’t always see change that way. I now understand what it really means to build relationships with others.

IMG_7879IMG_7880

I’m learning to embrace my journey as an artist. Don’t rush the dream AshleYYY! I’ve also stepped out of my comfort zone and began collabing with other songwriters. Sometimes more heads are better than one. I’m also thankful for my team & grateful to have two of the sweetest young ladies by my side, putting in werk! 😉

IMG_7154

PERSONAL (TMI?) >>

hair out From my skin, to my hair journey, to becoming a “woman” lol! (Not that guys! Let me explain) — It’s been an eventful year. No one told me I’d be experiencing all these changes in my late 20s! WTH?! It’s funny, my sis & I were just talking about how we both still feel really young. I mean we are “young”, but we’re older in a sense because we are more aware, career focused, and making sense of life
Ya’ll know what I’m saying, right?

IMG_3780IMG_4833Since I moved to Atlanta two years ago, I noticed all these changes: stomach reacting to different foods (omg), random breakouts (thank you Proactiv),

IMG_4158IMG_6915learning new ways to take care of my hair, sleeping & eating patterns, how I deal with conflict, relationships, interpreting my dreams, how to avoid stress, etc
it’s all so much! [Maybe I’ll share my thoughts in a birthday blog next month, cuz Jan. 10th is around the corner!! Ah!]

IMG_3801hair

LASTLY,

I can’t say it enough
Thank You to ALL of my fans, subscribers, my supporters, those who have allowed me to perform on their stage, new friends, and everyone I have had the privilege of crossing paths with. Everything happens for a reason. Cheers to the New Year, to LIFE, to learning & then acting on it. Here’s to CHANGE, Appreciating life and those in it, facing every obstacle, Faith, and God being in control of it all
He keeps us & allows us to see a new day. Thank You.

2014, it’s been real. 2015, what you got for me? I’m pretty much as ready as I’ll ever be. Lol

Press Release: AshleYYY Releases New Single “Why You Come For Me?”

AshleYYY - Why You Com For Me?

Nationwide – November 25, 2014 — It’s a testament to AshleYYY’s fearlessness.  This past year the triple threat singer, songwriter and dancer AshleYYY has written songs regularly, recorded multiple features, performed on many stages while not only honing her craft but continuing to build her brand. In the midst of all that, with anticipation building over the last year for new music, AshleYYY has quietly made her way into the studio to record her latest single “Why You Come For Me?” which has been made available to the world today November 25, 2014. It’s not a ballad, nor is it a dance track. It’s a good mixture of both, with vulnerable lyrical content. “Why You Come For Me?” is a story that will paint a picture for you, she describes this song as an “honest piece.”

“It’s funny; I’ve realized how much the “true story” songs end up being so much easier to write. I remember writing the majority of this piece back in 2012, and just how easy the lyrics seemed to fall on the page.”

AshleYYY has the ability to tug on people’s emotions with her strong ballads and her aim with this single is no different. Although this one isn’t a ballad, her focus is and has always been on making great music that people can relate to while continuing to grow in every aspect of being an artist.

“I want to be an artist who stands behind her music and knows what she wants, and knows exactly how she wants it to sound…without feeling some type of way about it when more work has to be done. (laughs) #TeamAshleYYY Always striving for greatness.”

With her new single “Why You Come For Me?” ready and available for the world to hear, AshleYYY looks to have her “honest” music fall on the ears, hearts and minds of all that can relate.

For more on Why You Come For Me? single release and for business or bookings contact Edward Griffin at [email protected] 414.208.4694.

New Music For You 11.25.14 #WYCFM

October 28, 2014 by AshleYYY
My Blog
#WYCFM, 2014, AshleYYY, AshleYYYMusic, ATL, break ups, Dancer, freedom, Growth, hhucit, HHUCIT Music Group, Hip Hop, honest, lessons, Love, lyrics, MKE, new music, New Single, November 24th, Promo, R&B, relationships, Singer, Songwriter, support, TeamAshleYYY, Triple Threat, true story, Why You Come For Me?

I think the best thing about being a songwriter is that so much freedom comes with it. It’s liberating. There are no boundaries. The topics are endless and I can go in whatever direction I feel…

It’s been over a year since I put out any new music. (Thank ya’ll for your patience, and still rocking my music in the meantime 🙂 lol) In the past couple of years, I’ve written enough songs to make 5 albums; but there was no need to keep dropping a project every 6 months. My focus has been on perfecting my live show, growing as a vocalist, expanding my network, and pushing myself as a writer. I’ve learned the importance of editing, going back to re-write what I thought was final lol, adding other elements to make a song come to life, and getting honest feedback from others, all BEFORE showcasing it to the world. I’m learning everyday and thankful for my awesome team & the beautiful people God has placed around me.

It is now time to give my people new music. Great music. *Remember, I pinky swore on my last project to always strive for greatness* 🙂 This song isn’t a ballad, nor is it a dance track. But what I love about this record is that it’s a good mixture of both + vulnerable lyrical content. It’s a laid back kinda groove 🙂 …but with a story. The lyrics paint a picture for you. It’s an honest piece…  It’s funny; I’ve realized how much the “true story” songs end up being so much easier to write. I remember writing the majority of this piece back in 2012, and just how easy the lyrics seemed to fall on the page. I’m sure many of you will be able to relate to this story in some way or another…either you went through it, put somebody else through it lol, or know someone who experienced it. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did creating it. 🙂

We will be releasing my new song, “Why You Come For Me?” on Tuesday, November 25th, 2014. It will be available for purchase everywhere digital music is distributed. I would love ya’ll support and as ALWAYS, your down right honest opinion of the song. Until then please repost, share, spread the word, and get a sneak peak of the visuals & lyrics below. Thanks so much! #WYCFM

Get ready!!

My experience at the Singer-Songwriter Retreat! #WSAATL

October 23, 2014 by AshleYYY

For the past 2 years I have been a part of Writing Sessions of America ATL. #WSAATL is a national network created for singers and songwriters. I am so happy to be a part of this movement and want to share my experience with you guys!  This past weekend was the Singer-Songwriter Retreat and I took in a lot! Let’s take a stroll, shall we…

Day 1 – VIBE

Marquita and I attended the Icon Award Honors and got to meet a lot of people. Jamie Foster Brown, of Sister to Sister Magazine was one of the honorees that evening. (I shuda got a pic of her nails! They were flawless! lol *sparkling*)

photo 3Brandon

Day 2 – CoCo Studios

What a pleasant surprise… I ran into Brandon Carrillo, guys! Brandon is an accomplished singer/songwriter himself. For those of you who have been #TeamAshleYYY from the very beginning, you know he performed at the very FIRST AshleYYY Unplugged, back home in Milwaukee! He was one of the writers and composers of “Can’t Believe In You” 🙂 )

photo 5(l to r) Yummy Bingham, Karonna, & Marck Gordon of Levert

Songwriter Seminar- The panelists discussed collaborations, seeking placements, and the importance of being a registered writer. Yummy Bingham, singer/songwriter, shared her experiences as a young girl, what she’s learned being in the music industry all of her life, the importance of humbled beginnings, and not needing a beat to find inspiration.

Two of my favorite quotes: “You can never graduate from studying.” ~Yummy

“Have a ‘no matter what’ attitude. Believe so much in yourself that you’ll spend your last dime.”(Don’t let anybody outwork you!) ~Karonna

photo 5

800 Forrest

Producer Seminar- We learned the difference between a producer and a beat maker, how these guys got their big break, being successful in your craft, and so much more!

Great point: Always stay true to yourself as an artist no matter what sound is trending on mainstream radio.

*Fun Fact: Chris “Deep” Henderson wrote/produced “Happily Ever After” by Case. (Even back in ‘99 I knew I wanted to walk down the aisle to this song!! Lol omg). He also composed/produced “The Greatest Sex” by R. Kelly. (Ya’ll already know how I feel about Robert. 🙂 But this song is one of my favorites. How awesome.)

photo 4

“I be in the club. Standing on the couch! In them Wolf Greys. Like it’s my house – I’M HOME!” ~Miley, 23 – Lol! Singer/Songwriter/Producer, Gordon Chambers, performs his butt off at the Aloft Hotel.

Day 3 – CoCo Studios

photo 1(l to r) Troy, Saleema & Edward

Live Radio Showcase – I had the opportunity to perform and receive immediate feedback from a panel. I was so looking forward to being critiqued! It’s always beneficial to hear honest, constructive criticism from others – especially those who have never seen me perform or heard my music before.

Film|Music|Television Seminar- This was another great panel!

Important points: Think outside the box when it comes to your music being on a larger scale / Allen Johnston: Important to learn how to do things yourself. CoCo: Make a way to do what it is you want. Stay focused. Rashard Partee: Find yourself along the way. You may end up on a different career path. Lisa Cunningham: Research. / “You have to stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready.” / *be careful of VANITY in this industry.* / don’t be scared to “give to get” / Troy Taylor: Remember you are a vessel for God!

photo(l to r) Kevin Shine, Troy Taylor, CoCo, Lisa Cunningham, Allen Johnston, & Rashard Partee

Soul Asylum

Beat Lounge with Rafael Capone – This was a dope workshop –- and a challenge. As a large group, we had to pick ONE producer, one writer & a singer. After the music was picked, we had less than an hour to write. Everybody went off in their own corner to get in their zone. Each round you had to bring ya A game! When time was up, we had to sing the song for the group and then vote for our favorite verse/hook. (This took a while lol) We narrowed it down to 3 groups because of the great lyrical content from the top 3 writers. I wasn’t picked as a songwriter,  but had another opportunity to battle it out against the singers in the room. I was picked, and will now be collaborating with winning songwriter, Ramar! Whoop, whoop! 🙂 Congrats to all of the winners, especially Hugh, the winning producer
 Let the games begin!

photo 2(l to r) Ramar, Rafael Capone of Soul Asylum Studios, and my new friend/singer/songwriter Sonia Emore 🙂

Day 4 – Omen Agency

Praise God! After performing Saturday, I was then selected to perform at the Closing Showcase! I utilized my feedback and felt much better about my overall performance this time around. 🙂photo 3 (1)

~El Fin~

WOO! That took me forever. Lol Thanks for tuning in guys 🙂 But before you go, check out the flyer below
TONIGHT! I will be performing at Apache CafĂ© for the first time, along with some other amazing artists! Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 – 8pm – the last Writing Sessions of the year! Come celebrate with us!

My First Experience at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards!

October 16, 2014 by AshleYYY

1Soooo guess who attended the BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2014 AND worked the Green Carpet beforehand?!

MEEE! 🙂 The awards are held in Atlanta, GA every year and I finally got to attend thanks to Mr. Griffin, CEO of Hip Hop U-C-It LLC. I was a photographer/publicist of HHUCIT for the evening lol. It was a great learning experience for me
.oh what to do when you are just tHRoWn in the mix and have to deliver! Lol

5

During and after the first interview, my heart was racing and I was hot! (I sweat easily too smh) All that anticipation built up before meeting the first person. We did well though! Renita, my fellow publicist, took the lead in the beginning. (OMG, she was a natural with the mic 🙂 ) Overall, our team worked well together. 6

Thankfully, we were given “cheat sheets” from BET to familiarize ourselves with each person that would be walking the carpet. (Now this came in handy!) Once I saw someone down the line, I would prepare myself (Check the cheat sheet), ask my team background info (“Who the heck are they?!”), and think of questions to ask that individual (“What award are you nominated for tonight?”). After a few interviews back to back, we was IN THERE maaane! Lol Shook off the nerves
“Shake it off! Shake it off! Hoo-hoo-hooh!” (*Singing Taylor Swift in my head*)

3 I have a tendency to be very shy when I get to these types of events (“But AshleYYY, you’re a performer. You’re an artist yourself!”)…I know, I know. I’m slowly breaking out of that shell. Never forget celebrities are people, just like US! LOL

So long story short, after meeting a few people, I started to get the hang of things & picked up the pace. I had to remember to just be AshleYYY, let my personality come out in the interviews, and make everything conversational. By the end up the night, I was cracking jokes with artists, snapping my fingers with witty actresses, and taking selfies with Love & Hip Hop Reality Stars 🙂 lol See more of my photos below! AND most definitely don’t forget to visit HIPHOPUCIT.com & subscribe for ALL of your entertainment news HERE!
